BPA / BisA in Japan
We’ve had a few questions recently from customers worried about the levels of Bisphenol-A (or BPA) in the linings of our canned products. At the time of writing there is no regulation of BPA levels in food packaging in Japan, however many of our international suppliers are aware of the issues surrounding this chemical. Most notably Eden Foods guarantee that none of their cans – other than their canned whole tomatoes – contain BPA. Unfortunately, due to the high acidity of canned tomatoes there is no alternative to BPA lined cans . The same is true of any high acid canned food. Although BPA is present in the can lining for tomatoes both Eden and Campo test their tomatoes and the levels of BPA are always in the ‘undetectable’ range. If you’d like more detailed information on any of our suppliers please don’t hesitate to contact us. For anyone wishing to find out more there is a very good article in the New York Times outlining the main arguments involved.
