Tomatoes update

If you’re a little worried about the strength of your fence here is a lighter option. Just take a heavy duty rubbish bag, available in any home center and fill with as much soil as you think your fence can support (the bag in the photo is about half full). Make a tiny incision at the bottom of the bag and reinforce with heavy duty tape to stop the soil falling out. Finally, to get the seedling in place, tip the bag so the reinforced hole is at the top, reach inside with the seedling and push gently out of the hole, then hold in place from the outside as you tip the bag right way up again so the soil falls round the roots and holds it in place. Trust me, it’s much easier than it sounds. Finally hang in a sunny spot and don’t forget to water!

For those of you who are wondering about the upside down tomato in my previous post, here is what it looks like a couple of weeks on. It needs a few shoots pinching out but we’ve had three ripe tomatoes already. Note the extra support bar underneath, just in case!
